# DSC for eOffice file signing

The certificate is used to sign the eFile itself: a green note, a draft or a dispatch, before the file moves to the next officer. eOffice calls the control DSC Sign and Send and asks for the token PIN. Dealing officers and above sign this way, and the mandate from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances made digital signing compulsory before an eFile is forwarded, which NIC applied from 1 July 2024. On the class, the sources disagree and we will not pretend otherwise. The DAR&PG material recommends a Class 2 signing certificate, and a department FAQ lists both Class 2 and Class 3 as valid. We supply Class 3 signing. eOffice also signs with Aadhaar eSign, registered from the eFile home page, so an officer who only signs files may not need a token at all. Registration on eOffice is a one-time step the officer does, then the certificate is listed for signing. We do not touch the department's eOffice install. Rajasthan offices use RAJKAJ, which has its own signer utility.

## Who needs this

- Dealing officers and above, who forward an eFile
- Office staff who receive and sign drafts
- Section officers and assistants who sign on behalf of the section
- Rajasthan officers signing on RAJKAJ

## Documents required

- Department or office identity card
- PAN card, with the name as per your income tax record
- Aadhaar card, linked to that PAN and to your mobile number
- Address proof
- Email ID and mobile number for the certificate record

## Process

1. **Send us your documents.** Send the department papers and your own documents on WhatsApp, by email or at our Udaipur office, and we fill the application.
2. **Complete payment.** Pay for the certificate and the USB token
3. **We submit, you do the KYC.** We file the application with the Certifying Authority. You then confirm your mobile and email with OTPs, do the Aadhaar OTP and video KYC with them, and a final eKYC OTP on your phone approves the application. We assist you at every step.
4. **Receive the token and register on eOffice.** Get the USB token by courier (or use your own FIPS 140-3 token), then register the certificate once from the DSC Registration option on eOffice. We assist you at every step.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is a DSC mandatory for eOffice?**

A digital signature is mandatory before an eFile is forwarded, and eOffice offers two of them. It can be a DSC or an Aadhaar eSign. The order from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances made it compulsory from 1 July 2024, so the officer has to sign somehow.

**Can an officer use Aadhaar eSign instead of a DSC on eOffice?**

Yes. eOffice registers an Aadhaar eSign from the eFile home page, and a green note can be signed with it. If the office only signs files, that route needs no token and no certificate from us.

**Which class of DSC does eOffice need?**

The sources differ. The DAR&PG material recommends a Class 2 signing certificate and one department FAQ lists both Class 2 and Class 3 as valid, while the Certifying Authority's list of classes still defines Class 2 and says a Certifying Authority may opt out of any class. We issue Class 3 only. Ask your department which class its own eOffice build accepts, and we will tell you plainly.

**How do I register my DSC on eOffice?**

It is a one-time step by the officer, from the DSC Registration option on the eOffice login. You plug in the token, enter the PIN and pick the certificate. After that it is listed for signing whenever a file needs a signature.

**What is the Digital Signer Service, and do I need to install anything?**

It is the signer component eOffice uses to reach the certificate on the token. Your office's IT team installs it once on the machine, not on every officer's laptop, and the same component works for signing and for eSign.

**Rajasthan officers use RAJKAJ rather than eOffice. Does the same certificate work?**

Yes. RAJKAJ has its own utility for signing, and a Class 3 signing certificate from us works there as it does on eOffice. The download for the driver and the signer sits on the RAJKAJ downloads page your department already uses.
